Steven Vincent Interview

King Baniain dug through the NARN archves and found the second interview we did with Steven Vincent, from April 23. It was just before he went back to Iraq and during the course of this conversation he mentions his (and his wife's) security concerns and his assessment of the unstable political conditions in Basra.

We plan to play exceprts of the interview this Saturday on NARN (Saturday, 12 - 3 PM on AM1280, the Patriot). Regarding Vicent's appearances on the show, Jordan (late of the MAWB Squad) writes in:

I just read your post regarding Steven Vincent. My knowledge of him is minimal as I have only read his book and heard him on your show and yet it was hard to not choke up. I'm really saddened. I hope to God they did this quickly.

Thank you for introducing him to the public here. If it were not for you guys, I probably would have never heard about his work. I'll definitely say a prayer for his family tonight.

Per his widow's wishes, memorial donations are being taken by Spirit of America. That organization's overall purpose:

Spirit of America's mission is to extend the goodwill of the American people to assist those advancing freedom, democracy and peace abroad. We provide support to those on the front lines: American military and civilian personnel and people who call to Americans for help in their struggle for freedom and democracy.

Several bloggers have been citing Michael Yon as providing in-country coverage similar to what Vincent did. It looks like he's affiliated with specific military units, so he doesn't have the independence of Vincent, but his first-person accounts, with pictures, of actual engagements are very compelling and includes information you'll never see in the MSM.
