Over the years attempts by the Minneapolis Star Tribune to try to stay current with the latest trends have proved to be a rich source of amusement. Usually the Strib picks up on a trend a good two years after it's introduction just barely scooping Readers Digest on it. If you see an article in the Strib's Variety section about the hot clothes that all the kids are wearing it means that next week you'll be able to buy those clothes at the local Wal Mart.
So it should be no surprise that the Strib's attempt to enter the world of blogging is both late to the game and utterly lame. Their effort is called 2cents and if the folks responsible for it are being any more than that for their efforts the paper is being ripped off. What I find amazing is that as far as I can tell no one is reading it despite the fact that it is prominently linked to in the on line version of the paper and has been mentioned in the paper's hard copy edition a number of times including last Sunday's editorial page. A blurb described 2 Cents as a place to find "opinions with attitude". I expect the next promotion to be something along the lines "edgy, proactive, opinions to the extreme in a new outrageous paradigm".
