The New Face of Hockey

Yesterday's NHL All Star was the most entertaining in years. Whether the format switch back to Eastern versus Western Conference instead of the North America vs. World set up was the cause is difficult to determine but the result was fun to watch. Instead of the 12-10 scores that we've witnessed in recent years the game ended in 5-5 regulation tie with the Western Conference winning in a shootout after the teams played a scoreless five minute OT.

Dany Heatley of the Atlanta Thrashers found the net four times in regulation and also scored on his shootout attempt. He was clearly the star of the game but other younger players such as the Wilds Marian Gaborik also shone in the spotlight. It's a bit frightening to think that Heatley is only twenty-two years old. It's even more frightening as a Gopher puck fan to consider that Heatley could still be playing in the WCHA at Wisconsin instead of lighting up this year's All Star game and winning the Calder Trophy as the league's best rookie last year.

You made the right decision Dany.
