Our featured beer is produced in Longmont, Colorado by the Left Hand Brewing Company. I’ve enjoyed their beers over the years when I’ve visited the Rocky Mountain state, however it wasn’t until a business trip last week that I discovered an interesting connection to the brewery. It turns out that a gentleman that I work with not only designed the logo that appears on Left Hand’s bottle caps, but the hand used for the logo is his. That’s a pretty good mark to leave for posterity. It’s also a good lesson on contracts, trademarks, and the value of intellectual property as the reward for his good work was something like a check for twenty-five dollars.
Oh well, he’s still got a great story to tell when enjoying a Left Hand brew such as their Milk Stout, our beer of the week,
12oz brown bottle. Funky label design with a purple background and a cow whose spotting pattern looks quite familiar.
ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 6.0%
COLOR (0-2): Brownish-black. 2
AROMA (0-2): Cocoa and vanilla. 2
HEAD (0-2): Tan color, good volume and lacing. 2
TASTE (0-5): Roasted malty sweetness with rich flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. Very smooth and slightly thin mouthfeel with a medium body. Decently drinkable. 4
AFTERTASTE (0-2): Long and lasting. 2
OVERALL (0-6): A very tasty stout that’s rich and flavorful without being overly heavy. The sweet and bitter flavors are well balanced and it makes for a perfect beer to enjoy with a dessert. I also was able to try a Milk Stout Nitro on tap and that version is even better. 4
