Local TV weatherman Paul Douglas, in the middle of his weather column in the Star Tribune on Saturday, throws in this bit of wisdom for those wondering if it was going to rain or not:
I'm not a big fan of tatoos, but in this I'm willing to make an exception. Richard Glover has an interesting post in the Sydney Morning Herald:"Surely it's time for climate-change deniers to have their opinions forcibly tattooed on their bodies. Not necessarily on the forehead; I'm a reasonable man. Just something along their arm or across their chest so their grandchildren could say, ''Really? You were one of the ones who tried to stop the world doing something? And why exactly was that, granddad?'' On second thoughts, maybe the tattooing along the arm is a bit Nazi-creepy."
The Glover column drew worldwide recognition for its intolerant tone. Interesting to note that even Glover takes a step back from the rhetorical precipice, due to his own obvious Nazi implications. But to Paul Douglas, it's an "interesting" post and the idea earns his endorsement (whimsical or not).
In this same post, headlined "Blue Sky for Edina Art Fair," he quotes liberally from the Huffington Post, NPR, Media Matters, and Ezra Klein, including references to to "climate change deniers'', "science deniers", and a new slur for all seasons, "the deniers" (which I deny applies to me). And he calls those who are skeptical of claims of cataclysmic, anthropogenic warming "bone headed."
That's a lot to wade through to find out if it was going to be sunny or not at the Edina Art Fair. And that last one, a low blow coming from the guy who brought the word "snizzle" to the Twin Cities' popular imagination.
