Keith Ellison Is The Bomb

Rapper P. Diddy made news in 2004 with his Vote or Die campaign. In its goal to elect John Kerry as President, it failed.

Yet scores of non-voters continue to live. Some legal observers believe this could be the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since the movie The Never Ending Story.

Apparently, the lesson learned among the rap community was that the slogan just wasn't proactive enough to be successful. Flash forward four years and the rappers and Democrats have conspired for the next generation of young voter appeals. According to the Minnesota Daily:

Hip-hop artist Brother Ali headlined a Coffman Union concert Thursday night to promote voter registration on campus. U.S. Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison , who represents the University’s congressional district, sponsored the event, called "Explode the Vote."

Explode the Vote? Who organized this event, Bill Ayers!?

I see Brother Ali is aboard. He's a local hip hop legend, best known for charming lyrics like:

Welcome to the United Snakes
Land of the thief home of the slave
The grand imperial guard where the dollar is sacred and power is God

Smoke and mirrors, stripes and stars
Stolen for the cross in the name of God
Bloodshed, genocide, rape and fraud
Written to the pages of the law good lord

Eww-kay. Net my cup of tea. But don't you dare question his patriotism!

Here's Rep. Keith Ellison's review of the man performing at his event:

We've got some really good artists who are not only really good rappers, but they're also folks who are going to provoke and inspire and get people really thinking about the possibilities for our country and our world — and to a funky beat,” Ellison said.

Yes, a funky beat. He neglected to mention you can also dance to it and he rates it an 85.

But about that first part of the review. Let me get this straight. Singing about the US as a vicious, murdering, racist, contemptible place will get people to start thinking about the possibilities for our country.

I'm hesitant to imagine what those possibilities might get made. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with exploding the vote.

Let's see how it is affecting the fans:

First-year chemical engineering student Dan Caron said he liked Brother Ali's message. "I like that he raps about the stuff that matters," he said.

I think we can relax. Answers like that imply these people probably can't find their way to the vote, let alone explode it.

Tables promoting U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken and presidential candidate Barack Obama greeted concert-goers as they entered.

Emergency! Imbecile rap fans being unduly influenced by people in authority! Somebody call the IRS Rapid Reaction Squad!

Ellison and Ali have known each other since the early 1990s. They even attend the same mosque in Minneapolis, Ellison said.

Wow, what a mosque. Is Brother Ali in the choir? I bet their holiday concert is really something.

Ali does have controversial lyrics in some of his songs, such as his song, "Uncle Sam Goddamn," in which he refers to the United States as the "united snakes."

Uncle Sam Goddamn? Who organized this event, Jeremiah Wright!?

No, it was Keith Ellison sponsoring the event. And he knew exactly who he was booking. But fear not, dear voter. Those vicious anti-American lyrics mean nothing:

Ellison said despite promoting the concert, neither he nor Ali should be held responsible for the actions of the other.

Well, that settles that. Nothing to see here mainstream America. Move along, move along.

Actually, this event is the equivalent of Norm Coleman booking, oh I don't know, Johnny Rebel, for an event reaching out to the kids. Then saying the message of the music means nothing, he's not responsible for it, he's only inspiring thought. Followed by the media either applauding him or ignoring the entire thing.

BTW, I've never heard of Johnny Rebel before. I had to Google around to dig up a redneck musician known for peddling hate and idiocy. And septuagenarian Johnny Rebel was the most prominent one I could find! Thankfully, you couldn't fill a voting booth with people who would come out for a Johnny Rebel-syle message at a campgain event. Whereas the local left can pick from among the stars of the local progressive rap and rock scenes and sell the joint out any night of the week with this same level of sewage. Sewage in which this Democrat candidate and his voters are proud to wallow.

In short, what I'm saying is, I MISS MARTIN SABO!
