T-Paw For Veep?

Pawlenty to stump for McCain in Michigan:

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will make a pitch for presidential candidate John McCain on Saturday at the Michigan Republican Party's state convention in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Pawlenty is the national co-chairman of the Arizona senator's campaign, and his speech to Michigan GOP activists will increase his national exposure. Some Republican operatives have said Pawlenty would be on a short list of potential vice presidential candidates if McCain wins the Republican presidential nomination next year.

"I look forward to helping Sen. McCain communicate his common sense conservative principles across this great nation," Pawlenty said in a news release issued by McCain's campaign committee.

Interesting. I'm not sure what the real benefits of adding Pawlenty to the ticket would be. Given the recent political winds that have blown through the state, I doubt if pairing T-Paw with McCain would guarantee that Minnesota would go red in 2008 or necessarily help McCain in other states in the Upper Midwest. The electoral impact could be similiar to Kerry tapping Edwards in '04: little bang for the buck.
