I'm currently reading the book War Letters edited by Andrew Carroll and I can't recommend it highly enough. It features previously unpublished wartime correspondence between American troops and their loved ones back home stretching from the Civil War though Bosnia. The courage and sacrifices made by both the soldiers and their families are inspiring, particularly so now that we are once again engaged in a conflict that calls so many young men and woman away from their homes.
