If you missed last Saturday's NARN First Team interview with Ross Bernstein, you can now listen to it commercial-free (what, you don't want to hear how you can be as regular as the atomic clock?) here. Ross has written two excellent books on the codes of honor that govern professional hockey and baseball. You may think you know the game, but believe me you don't.
The Code: Baseball's Unwritten Rules and It's Ignore-at-Your-Own-Risk Code of Conduct
The Code: The Unwritten Rules Of Fighting And Retaliation In The NHL
Ross interviewed scores of former and current players in both sports and their comments and stories on the "code" are fascinating. You won't watch either sport the same way after reading these books. I know I don't. Having an inside perspective of some of the games within games going on between the lines (and the boards) brings the level of viewing enjoyment up a notch.
