A friend of ours is getting married this summer. My wife and I were discussing this the other day and we were amazed at the number unusual in-law situations that have been created by various divorces on both sides of the family.
The bride is divorced. Her parents are divorced. They each have a new spouse (who are both divorced). The bride's ex-husband is divorced, he has a new spouse (who is also divorced). The groom is divorced. His ex-wife has a new spouse (who is also divorced). His parents are divorced and THEY TOO each have a new spouse (and yes, they too are both divorced).
So in a non-divorce culture situation there would normally be six people we're talking about here: the bride and groom and their respective parents. Three weddings all told. In the above scenario, there are...oh hell, I sat down to figure it out and couldn't even sort out the exponential number of people involved from these myriad divorces.
Let's just say the holidays will be a challenge in this new marriage.
