A New Sheriff In Town?

Minneapolis police officer running for sheriff:

Rich Stanek, a former state legislator and public safety commissioner, has announced he's a candidate for Hennepin County Sheriff.

Patrick McGowan currently holds the office. McGowan is the county's 26th sheriff. He was also a Minneapolis police officer before being elected sheriff in 1994.

In making his announcement, Stanek said, "I made the decision to run for the office because I believe I can bring an even higher level of leadership, experience and professionalism to the Hennepin County Sheriff's office."

Stanek is currently a captain with the Minneapolis police department and is in charge of investigations. He also served nine years in the legislature as a representative from Maple Grove.
