My three television sports viewing options tonight?
- The Philippines versus Lebanon in men's basketball
- Vietnam versus Qatar in soccer
- Taipei versus Japan in women's basketball
I actually caught a couple of minutes of the latter tonight. Like a car wreck, I just couldn't look away. If you think the WNBA is hard to watch, you ain't seen nothing yet. There's a reason that you don't often see the words "Asian women's basketball" in the same sentence. I wish I could say "it was so bad, it was good," but it wasn't. It was so bad, it was BAD.
It was also strange to see the word Lebanon on a sports jersey. You almost forget that despite all the war, terrorism, and assassinations the country has suffered, life and sport still must go on.
Despite a gutty effort tonight, they fell short against the Filipino squad. I wonder if anyone in Beirut was watching.
