What's That Smell?

Of course, the LIVE EARTH! concert series is tomorrow and I see Washington DC has just today been added as a venue.

Al Gore originally wanted the nation's capital to be the primary setting for this concert. I'm sure with the US government's institutional infrastructure as a backdrop, this unprecedented exercise in propaganda would have been even more effective in convincing the average citizen of the imperative of reorganizing their lives (and tax burden) based on future government dictates to fix this "crisis."

Unfortunately for Mother Earth, two other groups had already rented out the Capitol mall space on that date and many Republicans in Congress were justifiably against shuffling things around to meet the needs of an Al Gore publicity campaign.

The government run broadcasting monopoly of Ireland has picked up the story. The staff over at NPR have to be a impressed at how well their Irish equivalents are broadcasting the unbiased, nonpartisan truth to the people:

The US capital, Washington DC, has been added as a host city for tomorrow's global series of Live Earth concerts, thanks to a Native American museum. The DC show almost did not happen because some Republicans in the US Congress were blocking efforts to get a permit. Many US Republicans deny the existence of global warming because of their ties to big oil and chemical companies.

I don't see any US outlets picking up this particular wording. If only we had a Fairness Doctrine!

Here's how Al Gore characterized finding a DC venue at the 11th hour:

Initially rebuffed by Washington, former Vice President Al Gore's Live Earth concerts found a last-minute home in the U.S. capital on Friday after Native Americans offered their museum for the worldwide event.

"A couple of global warming naysayers used parliamentary tricks in the Congress to block that," Gore said on CNN. "Well, instead of the cavalry riding to the rescue, the American Indians came to the rescue."

I wonder if that was part of the Indians' demands for allowing Gore to use their museum - he had to stick it to the 7th Cavalry in the announcement.

What are the fans who make it down to DC in time for the show tomorrow in store for?

Gore will kick off the Washington concert with a speech on climate change

What could possibly follow that? Maybe Joe Biden and his presentation on term life insurance?

Actually, the Gore speech might not be the most malodorous performance on the bill. According to the Live Earth web site, performing later that day in DC:

4:30 p.m. The Breaking Wind, rock, funk and blues from Canada's Six Nations Reserve and Caledonia in Ontario

That seems about right for an Al Gore sponsored concert on global warming.
