Regarding the college-aged Kerry: It's a funny fact that both senatorial Kerry/Kerreys had serious jaw surgery post-Vietnam war and pre-political career, each getting that Irish lantern jaw shortened... in Bob Kerrey's case, it really affected his appearance much more than in Jean Kerry's case...

In both cases, it probably could be argued that it was more than cosmetic, but served chewing and other causes... such as the psychological assuagement that comes from being able to pick up starlets like Debra Winger for Kerrey and Morgan Fairchild ( pre-her-own-Dolly-type surgical enhancement) for Kerry.
