Lafayette, We Are Here

More from Louisiana Joe on living in the land of the drive thru daiquiri:

Sorry about the confusion over "open container laws".  I meant that there were no open container laws w.r.t. walking around the streets of New Orleans (though glass is prohibited).  There are restrictions if you're behind the wheel.  However (true story) last month while riding shotgun with a buddy who had a 24oz brew in his hand, NOPD pulled up behind us, turned on the loudspeaker and instructed him, "Pass that to your passenger or we're pulling you over."  We complied immediately, and off they went.  Nothing like a mulligan when it comes to behind-the-wheel tippling.  Only in New Orleans...

Well, close. Only in New Orleans ... and its outlying suburbs. Some Google research provides the visual aid of the majesty that is the Daiquiri Hut in Lafayette, Louisiana.

And its star attraction, the drive-thru menu.

Call me a prude if you will, but ordering a gallon of the Cocaine Cocktail from my car would just feel wrong. Although it is only 20 bucks. I've dropped more than that at Arby's. But I did get fries with that.
