The Memories Linger

The 2006 Minnesota State Fair is in the books. Summer is over and it's time to go back to school or start taking your work seriously once again. But before we do, let's have a quick look back at last weekend's NARN I Fair broadcasts.

On Saturday, we were put under the spell of De'Anna The Hypno-chick. After preparing the volunteers backstage, De'Anna put on a thoroughly entertaining display of the powers of hypnosis. She drew quite a crowd to the broadcast booth. We had wanted her to hypnotize The Patriot's Jay Larson, but if you look up the definition of "trance" you'll find:

a state of mind in which consciousness is fragile and voluntary action is poor or missing; a state resembling deep sleep

Turns out that Jay's already been in a hypnotic trance as long as anyone can remember. We did get King Banaian to agree to alter his state and he discovered that being hypnotized is not always a bad thing, especially if you're huddling for warmth with the right people. I'm still a little worried about what happened when he and his hat had some time alone later in the day.

Sunday was another banner day. In addition to the "taxpayers watchdog", state auditor Pat Anderson, we had a Scotch Egg eating contest and Snakes On A Radio Show. While Saint Paul and I were a little wary about sharing the stage with a couple of serpents, at least we didn't cut and run like our co-host John Hinderaker. Saint Paul knew that snakes would elicit a reaction and after he screamed "Live snakes!" a few times, we drew a nice crowd.

He was also in rare form calling our annual Scotch Egg eating contest. Personally, I enjoyed the view from the deck. We crowned a new Scotch Egg King and hope he will return in 2007 to defend his crown.

We're especially excited about the 2007 State Fair because Jay Larson guaranteed us a spot for a NARN float in the parade. I trust he's working with the powers that be at the State Fair to make it happen as we speak. Only 353 days to go.
