Paying For Laughs?

The Acme Comedy Club is looking for the Twin Cities' funniest person:

As amateur comedians age 16 to 50 shuffle through Minneapolis' Acme Comedy Company's 14th annual Funniest Person in the Twin Cities contest semifinals this week, each lusts for the proverbial big break.

The price of admission?

Who: Watch 25 semifinalists battle to become the funniest person in the Twin Cities and win $1,000. Five semifinalists perform each night ahead of the club's headliners.

When: Semifinals conclude Fri. & Sat. (headliner Bill Santiago). Five finalists compete for title and grand prize at 8 p.m. Tue. (Henry Phillips).

Where: Itasca Building, 708 N. 1st St., Mpls.

Tickets: $13. ($15 Tue.) 612-338-6393.

Why pay to see the alleged "funniest person in the Twin Cities", when you can catch the real deal for free?

Who: Watch Saint Paul battle unruly mascots and an unpredictable crowd to prove once again that he is the funniest person in the Twin Cities.

When: This Saturday and Sunday 12pm-3pm

Where: AM1280 The Patriot broadcast booth at the Minnesota State Fair

Tickets: The price of admission to the Fairgrounds or free if you listen to the NARN this weekend.

Don't just take my word for it. Listen to John Hinderaker from Power Line describe Saint Paul:

The guy in the back with a microphone is the hysterically funny Brian "St. Paul" Ward from Fraters Libertas. (If Al Franken were as funny as St. Paul, Air America might be a success.)

If anyone knows humor, it's an Ivy League educated law-talking guy. See you at the Fair.
