Matt has a suggestion for dealing with the Star Tribune's registration requirements for their web site:
I'm writing to help out your reader, Dave, who doesn't want to register with the StarTribune to read the articles. There is, so far, a simple one-time fix. Pull up the Star Tribune website. Then go into your cookie manager and delete all startribune.com cookies (they set quite a few). Then tell your browser to block all future cookies from this site. I did this awhile back (so as to be able to read the Backfence) , and have never been asked to sign in since.
Until they decide to change their system, this should work.
